March 2018

Hello

The HIMSS conference was a highlight for Orbita this month -- and for the 43,000 other attendees! We used the event to announce several important new relationships with Mayo ClinicStaywell (a Merck subsidiary,) and Pillo Health.

Harvard Biz review icon.pngWhile HIMSS was in full swing, we were pleased to see Orbita mentioned in the Harvard Business Review article titled What Will Healthcare Look Like Once Smart Speakers are Everywhere?  Thanks to authors John Brownstein, MD, Boston Children's Hospital chief of innovation, and his colleagues for their shout-out.

Forbes Icon.jpgWe extend our appreciation to Forbes' Jennifer Kite-Powell for including us in her February article titled This Healthcare Companion Robot Will Remind You to Take Your Medicine. Also to Joseph Kvedar, MD, VP of connected health for Partners HealthCare, for recognizing Orbita's technology in a Home Care Technology Report article titled HIMSS Execs Discuss LTPAC IT.

Voice Technology: Hot at HIMSS
HIMSS opened with a keynote by Google Executive Eric Schmidt where he asked 8,000+ audience members to imagine a future in which a physician would be assisted by a form of technology - a virtual assistant - that would “listen to the conversation, provide advice in his or her ear, and fill out the transcript for the doctor.” In the days following, several people approached us to ask if Schmidt was referring to Orbita. This was flattering, to say the least.

While Schmidt's concept is still visionary, we know it can and will be achieved. Evidence is coming from new, real-world applications of voice and conversational AI in healthcare -- including those powered by Orbita. Scroll down to review Who's Using Voice? How? And Why? (below) for a round-up of case studies from our customers in care management, aging in place, clinical trials and beyond.

Sincerely,

PS: Don't miss this Health Populi blog posting titled What the Latest Pew Consumer Data Means for #HIMSS18 with health economist Jane Sarasohn-Kahn highlighting Orbita and sharing the following: "Health is social; isolation is a social determinant for ill health. Social networks have been found to be very helpful for peer-to-peer healthcare."

Join us for our next webinar
Making sense of voice experiences and conversational AI in healthcare:
When and why to expand upon paper, web and mobile interfaces
Thursday, April 26, 1-2PM EST

Voice is well suited for many of today’s most popular interactions with assistants like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant -- such as checking the weather or playing a song. But when and why do conversational experiences make the most sense for healthcare? What about chatbots and voice-video interactions? Presenters from Orbita and Worrell, a global health innovation and strategy design firm, will:

  • Share research on the power of voice to improve patient engagement and learning
  • Explore “placeona” (place-ona) – identifying how location can influence which type of interactive technology makes sense for people to use
  • Deconstruct voice as an interface to better understand when to use it – and when not to
  • Highlight omni-channel, “create once, publish everywhere” engagement – web, mobile, chatbots, video and more
